Our Crazy Yard Projects
I love spending time in the summer working on projects for the yard, digging through what I call my "treasure pile" (Greg calls it my junk pile) to see what I can make. I'm typically motivated by something I want, making a gift for a friend, and yes, sometimes reducing my "treasure pile". Here are a few examples.
The Art Fence
The bravest thing I ever did was paint the Art Fence. It was a crazy idea, inspired by a picture I found on Pinterest a couple years ago. While that picture used more subtle colors, that wouldn't have matched my yard. So with some courage and paint, I went for it.
It doesn't have to be from scratch
I found this piece at TJMax for less than $10 and gave it a facelift. A little stain, dremel carving, then paint and it was ready to go in the Secret Garden.
The Dragonfly Pot
We love dragonflies and as luck would have it, so does one of my good friends. Instead of sending her flowers or bringing her lasagna after a surgery, I made her this pot. No purchases were needed (except for the plant). I had the pot, dremel, paint, and she had already given me a bunch of old sunflower stems from her garden that are perfect for dragonfly landings.
The key to keeping the stems straight was the PVC pipe we buried in the dirt. Greg cut it for me, and then I painted it. The sticks are the perfect resting area for any dragonfly. Put it close to water, (she also has a pool) and they will come!
The BBQ Potting Bench
This is an old BBQ we had from I think the late 90s. I converted it into a potting bench several years ago. Greg tried to throw it away several times due to my delay in transforming it. That was motivating, as I knew it had another life. We are both glad we kept it. I use this all the time, it is my primary location for my gardening tools.
